CHILD CARE: The Hidden Cost of Doing Business

• In Larimer County, 63.1% of children under age 6 have all parents in the workforce.

• The main challenge is the cost of child care, which ranges from $8,653 to $13,897, depending on the age and type of setting chosen.

HOW DOES CHILD CARE AFFECT BUSINESS?

RETENTION
68% of parents would have to leave the workforce if they lost their paid child care.

ABSENTEEISM
69% of parents miss 1 or more days of work each year because of unavailable child care; 12% miss 10+ days of work – NOT INCLUDING DAYS OFF TO CARE FOR SICK CHILDREN!

BUT…
Employers often don't recognize this hidden cost. Only 7% of Employers surveyed said they had employees who missed work because of child care issues – including when caring for sick children.
